Medium-term stream (subclass 482)
The Medium-term Stream of the Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa in Australia is designed to allow employers to address labor shortages by bringing in skilled workers when they cannot find appropriately skilled Australian workers. This visa offers several benefits to applicants:
Work in Australia for your sponsor for up to 4 years, or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder.
Study in Australia (without government assistance).
Travel to and from Australia as many times as you want while the visa is valid.
If eligible, you can apply for permanent residence.
To be eligible for this stream of the TSS visa, you must be sponsored to work in an occupation listed on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL). The visa comes with specific conditions that can be found in your visa grant letter or by using VEVO.
The cost for the Medium-term Stream TSS visa is AUD3,035.00 for the main applicant and AUD760.00 for each dependent over 18 years old. Additional costs may include English language tests, health checks, police certificates, and biometrics.
This visa is temporary, allowing you to stay in Australia for the period your employer nominates you for, up to a maximum of 4 years, or up to 5 years if you are a Hong Kong passport holder. If you wish to extend your stay, your employer must submit a new nomination, and you must apply for a new visa.
Additionally, after 5 years, you may be eligible for permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) or the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (subclass 187).
INCLUDE FAMILY
You can include family members (secondary applicants) in your visa application. The eligibility for family members depends on whether you currently hold a subclass 457 or TSS visa.
If you have not previously held a subclass 457 or TSS visa, you can include family members who are part of the family unit.
If you currently hold a subclass 457 or TSS visa and are applying for a subsequent subclass TSS visa, you can include one of the members of the family unit or a person who holds a subclass 457 or TSS visa that was granted on the basis of being a family member.
