Skilled Overseas worker Wages Going Up in 2025
The minimum wages required for skilled workers coming to Australia on certain visas are increasing on July 1, 2025. This means employers will need to pay overseas workers more. This time, the increase is 4.6%.
Why the Increase?
The government adjusts these wages every year to keep them in line with how much Australian workers earn. This helps make sure that companies don’t try to hire overseas workers at lower wages, which could hurt Australian job opportunities.
What Are the New Wage Levels?
- Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT): The minimum salary will rise from $73,150 to $76,515 per year.
- The Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT): The minimum salary will increase from $135,000 to $141,210 per year.
- Employer Sponsored Regional visa (subclass 494) and the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (RSMS) (subclass 187): The minimum salary for certain regional visas will also increase to $76,515.
Important Points:
- Employers must pay at least these minimum amounts or the current market rate for the job, whichever is higher.
- These changes only affect new visa applications submitted on or after July 1, 2025.
- People who already have these visas, or applications already lodged before this date, are not affected.
- The TSMIT (Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold) is being replaced by the CSIT (Core Skills Income Threshold) and therefore the same indexation will be applied.
Essentially, these changes are designed to protect Australian workers and ensure fair wages for everyone.
