Our process
In Singapore, student visa is referred to as Student Pass. You must submit your applications for Student Pass at least one month before your course starts. To apply for the Student Pass, you must submit your application on the Student’s Pass On-Line Application & Registration (SOLAR) system.
All international students except Immigration Exemption Order holders have to apply for the Student Pass, if they want to pursue full-time studies in Singapore’s IHL.
Before this, students need to meet the following requirements.
BASIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
English Language Skills (IELTS or other acceptable testing system)
- You must satisfy English language proficiency
- Test taken must not be older than two years
- International English Language Testing System (IELTS)(Academic or General)
IELTS test score of:
- 5 or above for direct entry into a course
- 5 with an ELICOS course up to 20 weeks
Financial Requirement
You must have enough money to pay for your tuition fees, travel and your living expenses for yourself and your dependent family for the duration of your stay in Singapore. Fund should be genuinely available.
Health Requirement
You must undergo a health check depending on your personal circumstances, including your country of citizenship, time spent in another country during the last five years. This applies to you and any dependent family members included in your application.
Character Requirements
You must provide Police Clearance Certificate from your country of citizen and from other countries where you have lived for 12 months or more within the last 10 years.
Academic Records and History
These are your academics records such as Diploma, Transcripts of Records, and Certificates.
WHAT TO DO BEFORE APPLYING FOR SINGAPORE STUDENT VISA/STUDENT PASS?
Before submitting an application for Student Pass through SOLAR, you must be registered through the registration system by the institutes which you have been offered. When the institute has registered you with SOLAR, you need to fill and submit e-Form 16. You must have the following details before logging into your SOLAR account:
- A registration notification from SOLAR which contains your login username and password provided by IHL.
- Travel documents and passport details.
- Your email address
- One recent passport-sized color photograph
After submitting the e-Form 16, you have to take a printout copy of the form to submit to Student Pass unit – Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). It is one of the important formalities to be completed for issuance of the Singapore Student Pass.
You must assure the immigration department that you will remain in Singapore with a valid Student Pass at all times.
Below are the required documents:
- Your valid passport
- You must carry the departure/arrival card granted on entry into Singapore. If you have been residing in Singapore on other long term passes, you have to bring along that pass as well;
- One recent color passport-sized photograph (taken on white background);
- The printout of e-Form 16 submitted through SOLAR (duly signed by the applicant);
- If your documents are in native language, you must get an official English translation of the documents.
- A copy of the in-principle approval letter; and
- A medical report in the prescribed format (available on ICA’s website).
When you submit the application, make sure the laboratory reports are not more than three months from the issue date. In case you fail to fulfill the medical requirement, you will not be granted the Student Pass.
Generally, the Singapore student visa takes about four weeks to process. However, some applications may take longer if the immigration department requires some additional documents or information from you. In such situations, you will be notified through the SOLAR system.
