Are you planning to immigrate to Australia? If so, you may already be aware of the various requirements you need to fulfill, one of the most crucial being health requirements. Many countries have strict health standards for immigrants to ensure the well-being of both newcomers and the existing population. Navigating these requirements can seem daunting, but with the right information and preparation, you can successfully meet them.

Here are some key points to consider when it comes to meeting health requirements for Australia’s Immigration:

WHO NEEDS HEALTH EXAMINATIONS?

  • PERMANENT & PROVISIONAL VISA APPLICANTS: you and/or your family members applying for the visa, you must health examinations. In other cases, family members not coming to Australia might also need to have health examinations.
  • TEMPORARY VISA APPLICANTS: You and any family members applying for a visa might need to provide health examinations.

WHEN TO HAVE HEALTH EXAMINATIONS?

  • BEFORE YOU APPLY FOR A VISA: My Health Declarations (MHD) service enables you to complete health examinations prior to submitting your visa application.

Note: Do not use MHD if the visa you intend to apply for is not listed in the MHD service or if you already have lodged a visa application.

  • AFTER YOU APPLY FOR A VISA: If the visa subclass you intend to apply is not in the MHD form, you will need to wait until after you have applied for the visa.

ARRANGE YOUR HEALTH EXAMINATIONS

If you are asked to do a health examination, the immigration will provide the following:

  • A list of the examinations you must have,
  • An identifier, called HAP ID; which you will need to make an appointment.

In Australia: Arrange your health examinations for the medical services provider, Bupa Medical Visa Services.

Outside Australia: Applicant must be examined by one of Immigration’s approved panel physicians or clinics.

VALIDITY OF HEALTH EXAMINATIONS

Results for health assessment are valid for 12 months from the time that the applicant completed the examinations. If immigration asked applicant to sign a health undertaking, it will only be valid for 6 months.
