Labour agreement stream (subclass 482)
The Australia Temporary Work (Skilled) Visa under the Labour Agreement Stream is designed for skilled workers nominated by employers who have a Labour Agreement with the Australian Government. This visa allows individuals to live and work in Australia temporarily, with the option to study (without government assistance) and travel to and from Australia while the visa is valid. Depending on the terms of the labour agreement, you can work in Australia for up to four years, and if you're a Hong Kong passport holder, you can extend it for up to five years. This visa also opens up a pathway to permanent residency after five years for eligible candidates.
This is a temporary visa, and the duration of your stay is determined by your employer’s nomination, up to a maximum of four years. However, Hong Kong passport holders can stay for up to five years. If you wish to stay longer, your employer needs to submit a new nomination, and you must apply for a new visa. There is also an option for permanent residency through the Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) for eligible candidates.
You can include family members as secondary applicants in your visa application, depending on whether you currently hold a subclass 457 or Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa. Secondary applicants must meet health and character requirements, and they can’t be added to the application after submission.
The visa costs AUD3,035.00 for the main applicant and each dependent aged 18 and over. For each dependent under 18 years old, the cost is AUD760.00. Additionally, you may need to cover costs for English language tests, health checks, police certificates, and biometrics.
